![]() I have a sneaking suspicion that Drama UK is a useless organization, what good are their standards? Not to say the schools on the list aren't good, but they probably were good without Drama UK's say-so. This Drama UK organization doesn't seem to be anywhere near as formal as that and refers more to their standards of quality in the evaluation of UK programs. My usage, and the purpose of NAST, refers to there being a credible authority in place to accredit drama training schools to issue a degree. I think perhaps we're referring to a different conception of accreditation. Also, obviously the William Esper studio isn't on the list, they don't offer a degree. That's also true of the Julliard School which although smaller still has several subjects of training and so is not served by an agency as specific as NAST. Right, larger universities that happen to have acting programs are not accredited through NAST because they're more generally accredited through one of the six major regional accreditation agencies, which are also determined by the list of the Secretary of Education. There is no such high quality/picky/comprehensive/prestigious/strict/relevant system that evaluates American schools. ![]() When I said "there is no such system that evaluates American schools," I should have clarified. It's Juilliard! Oh NAST, you're killing me. ![]() The rednecks back in my hometown know about Juilliard. Even people outside of the acting loop know about Juilliard. Juilliard is a good example of a fantastic, vocationally based program in the US that is comparable with RADA or LAMDA on the "prestige scale." Oh, but it isn't even on the NAST list. But when it comes to vocational training, accreditation from the Secretary of Education just doesn't mean anything. It is no secret that most acting programs focus heavily on an academic approach instead of offering pure vocational training. Maybe those degrees offer great classes pertaining to theoretical knowledge of the arts (knowledge you can also obtain, of course, for free, from say, the internet, or perhaps a public library). And I'm sorry but the Secretary of Education means nothing to me. The admissions process is extremely competitive, which makes it special to just get into a school, much less graduate from the rigorous programs. Here is the list of accredited UK drama schools: ( ). Lists like these are the reason that people take out loans to study at mediocre 4 year schools and then wonder why nobody cares about their degree. Either way, I am sure that a lot of the schools on the list offer 'good training.' But a degree from the University of North Dakota just isn't going to open the same doors that a degree from one of the aforementioned American schools is going to. But I was under the impression that we were talking about independent conservatories that involve no actual academic classes. And William Esper's studio isn't even on the list.? America has some fantastic programs in actual universities such as Yale, NYU, UCLA, USC, Carnegie Mellon, etc etc (most of which aren't on this NAST list). At least half the list pales in comparison to even the lesser known accredited UK drama schools.
